roxette capriles, born in Curaçao, is an artist who currently lives and works in Rotterdam.
After graduating from the Willem de kooning Academy and winning the “Drempelprijs” with her work ‘Rots in Brand’, she gave workshops and tutored students of the Instituto Buena Bista Curaçao Center for Contemporary Art, an artists movement with the goal to create a solid platform for art, art education and social engagement. She was a student of IBB herself and regularly takes part of projects initiated by the institute and
is constantly asking herself how and where art needs to intervene.

sinnomber is driven by her need to understand how we interpret reality and are shaped by our subjective view of the world.
Since she does not believe in an ultimate truth, so...

IMPORTANT: understanding the act of looking and interpreting (others), developing a crucial, radical & critical attitude, habit of self-reflection and endless attempts at a nuanced, social analysis of human beings and the way in which we behave, and communicate and cope with existence through the use of the stories we tell ourselves.

This can result in a variety of media, like performances, installations, videos, music or clothes, any medium crucial to the act of creation at that particular moment in time.

Recipe for making a baby without two people

Give me a mic. That fucking mask is my authentic real self. Un angel ku kadena, kabi sali for di un kuna. I am god’s gift to the world. If only you would follow me on instagram @roxettecapriles. This mask; Those are my clothes, which i have renounced for the idea of a greater good. No bodily possessions. If I am already naked, there is no reason not to follow my heart. The pursuit of gratification from egotistic admiration of one's own attributes. Easily discarded shit. Why fill my emptiness? Void is good. Void gives room.
Room for all the stuff. You got your ramen, basic cola, primary colors, bling bling and magic. You got your maria, phones, rythm, dirt, passport marinating with meaning and my own profound sense of belonging to the island, branded by history, and our complex, contradictory relationships. Do you keep walking if there’s a little rock in your shoe? from the context of the street to museums, nursing homes, performance bars & schools.

I make, because we have to.

Let us seek out to pity and celebrate our current condition and spirit of our time, all while looking very cool. #havesomecompassion. cause eyes and ears connected in 2018. Deeply rooted in insecurity and crowned in dreams of ambition...to look at faults with nervous vigilance that excludes the rest of the people. How can one’s own history, reflect the social & political conditions of a society, and the spirit of our current times?
I want to keep looking outwards, so I try to get rid of my own distorted lens.

The anatomy of my research is unstructured, visual, philosophical, and refuses to use a specific, methodological frame defined by others. Randomness becomes the only way of avoiding the strait jacket. There is no single, overpowering research question, for I am in search of rhizomes. As a result, countless topics are touched up and it is exactly this, the acceptance of multiple perspectives and approaches to one idea, that is crucial in shaping the work. the thoughts. my actions.

I make, because we have to
